Innovation Partnership for the Development of a Maritime Digital System (S-100/S-200)
BRESTPORT, SEATOPIC, École Nationale Supérieure de Navigation
About
Launched as part of the European project Overheat, a group of three public buyers - BRESTPORT, SEATOPIC, and the École Nationale Supérieure de Navigation (ENSM) – launched an Innovation Partnership with the aim to develop a next-generation maritime digital system. The contracting authorities, each with complementary missions in economic development and maritime education, have launched this collaborative effort to foster technological innovation and enhance the safety and efficiency of maritime navigation
The Challenge
The challenge focuses on the development of next-generation maritime digital systems compliant with S-100/S-200 standards, including advanced Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS), and Pilot Portable Units (PPUs). These systems—covering VTS, ECDIS, and PPUs—must not only integrate complex digital maritime data but also ensure interoperability, real-time responsiveness, and enhanced navigational safety. The project demands cutting-edge technological development, rigorous testing, and seamless coordination among public, academic, and industrial stakeholders within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment.
