More and more, companies are implementing carbon reduction measures, products and innovations, but taking that step to go green can require a lot of work and effort. With the EIC Greenhouse Gas Programme, the EIC wants to further stimulate and support companies to reduce their carbon footprint. For those that still need a gentle nudge in the right direction, we gathered several inspiring EIC companies for you, innovators that are taking the motto "climate action is a business case" to the next level. In this week’s edition we meet with Demeta, a French green chemistry company that focuses on catalysts to lower GHG impact.

Set up in 2011, DEMETA is specialized in the development of new generation catalysts which lead to low GHG impact, yet high-performance materials and chemicals. Their developed technologies contribute to the European Commission’s targets through better product performance, lower GHG emissions and economic efficiency.

The catalysts developed by DEMETA are patent-protected molecular tools used at very low dosage that simplify chemistry, making it possible to develop efficient, eco-responsible, safer and more competitive processes and products. With its first technology platform, DEMETA develops and markets NexTene™, a family of high-performance and low-carbon footprint materials adapted for extreme conditions, serving various markets, from offshore oil & gas to composite materials and other industrial applications.  CEO Patrick Piot is proud of NexTene™, commenting that “our resins are a very good example of what our catalysts can bring to the industry. Even if our main raw material is derived from naphtha, in the end we manage to reduce our customers’ carbon footprint by 47% compared to other polymers such as epoxy or polyurethane, while having a material with outstanding thermal and mechanical properties.

With GreenCARE, its second technology platform, DEMETA develops bio-based specialty chemicals, such as cosmetic ingredients, flavors & fragrances, pigments and surfactants.

In addition to its products and technologies that will contribute to reducing the energy and carbon footprint of the chemical industry, DEMETA is currently designing a new technical and prototyping center in France that will also serve as its global headquarter. This new building will respect the most stringent specifications in term of energy saving and insulation. Solar panels will be installed on the roof to generate green electricity, and employees will be encourage to access the building either by public transportation or with electric vehicles.

About the EIC GHG programme

With the EIC GHG programme, part of the Business Acceleration Services, the EIC offers its beneficiaries the support and expertise needed to assess, track and efficiently reduce their carbon footprint through the use of a dedicated GHG tool, monthly webinars and further resources.

In addition, co-creation activities with corporates, industrial associations, regions in carbon transition and other EIC beneficiaries are planned. Applications for the EIC GHG: Co-creation with SUEZ and Cepi are open now! More information on the EIC GHG programme can be found here
