Unlocking AI-Powered Innovation in Wastewater Treatment: Discover the EIC Pitching Session with WL!

The EIC Innovation Procurement Programme, powered by SPIN4EIC, hosted an exclusive online Pitching Session on 31 January 2025, bringing together cutting-edge European innovators and Waterschap Limburg (WL), the Dutch regional wastewater treatment company.

A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

WL, the winner of the 2021 European Innovation Procurement Award, manages 17 wastewater treatment plants and over 1,500 pumping stations, processing 150 million m³ of wastewater annually. With a strong commitment to sustainability, WL continuously seeks innovative AI-driven solutions to optimize water treatment processes, reduce costs, and improve environmental impact.

The event provided a unique opportunity for EIC-backed companies to showcase their breakthrough AI-powered wastewater treatment solutions directly to WL, aligning with its vision of integrating AI, cybersecurity, and digital twin technologies to enhance process efficiency and decision-making.

During the session, EIC beneficiaries presented their innovative solutions to tackle five strategic challenges identified by WL:  I) Digital Twin Development and Integration; ii) Advanced IT Infrastructure; iii) Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure; iv) Data Analytics and AI Integration; v) Sustainability and IT Optimization.

The six selected EIC-backed companies that pitched their solutions were:

🔹 George Brik – Hydrovolta
🔹Johann Barlach - Variolytics
🔹 Niall English - Aqua B
🔹 Manuel Suarez – Tyris
🔹 Pavel Trojanek - Neuron Soundware
🔹 Fabien Chalas - Twinsity

More than just a showcase, the SPIN4EIC Pitching Session provided a strategic opportunity for these companies to shape the future of WL’s Procurement Program, positioning themselves as potential suppliers in AI-driven wastewater treatment. By leveraging advanced technologies, the session fostered strategic discussions on how AI can transform water management—enhancing efficiency, security, and sustainability in the sector.

The pitching event was very well-organiszed, providing a great platform to connect with key stakeholders and showcase innovative solutions. The structure, audience engagement, and feedback process were highly valuable. Looking forward to participating in future editions.
