About

The European Innovation Council and Shell Ventures gladly invite EIC beneficiaries to apply to an EIC Corporate Day, taking place on 4 May 2023 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The international energy giant is looking for innovative ready-to-buy products/services and/or very mature solutions that can help reduce, avoid, or remove significant amounts of CO2 emissions.

Make sure to APPLY until 23 February 2023

Established in 1996 as one of the first corporate venture funds in the energy industry, Shell Ventures helps companies reach the next level. Their goal is to invest in innovative companies from seed- to late-stage to further the development of solutions and technologies that have the potential to accelerate the energy and mobility transformation. The corporate invests in companies that can lower emissions, electrify their energy system, help them gain data-based insights and provide innovative consumer solutions. If your company is in renewable energy, new fuels for transport, connected mobility and freight, or digital.

To that end, Shell Ventures is interested in working with EIC beneficiaries that answer challenges related to helping reduce, avoid, or remove significant amounts of CO2 emissions (more info below).

EIC beneficiaries selected to attend the EIC Corporate Day with Shell Ventures on 4 May 2023 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, will have access to specific training, pitching, pre-arranged meetings with top decision-makers from the corporate and the possibility to network with high-level partners and like-minded innovators in a dedicated physical event.

Who can apply?

Applications are open to all EIC beneficiaries that are working on innovations related to the CO2 emissions challenge in the topics listed below.

Topic 1: CO2 mineralisation

That means finding new solutions for processes by which certain minerals react and form a bond with CO2, removing it from the atmosphere and resulting in inert carbonate rock.

Topic 2: Carbon to value

That means finding new technologies that capture and convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into durable, valuable end products or services.

Topic 3: Soil carbon sequestration

That means finding new solutions that enable the use of land or agricultural practices to increase the storage of carbon in soils.

Topic 4: Improved forest management

That means finding new solutions for land management practices designed to increase the quantity of carbon stored in forests relative to baseline conditions (e.g., by modifying harvest schedules).

Topic 5: Assistance with afforestation and reforestation

That means finding new solutions for strategies that involve growing new forests in places where they did not exist before (afforestation) or restoring forests in areas where they used to grow (reforestation).

Topic 6: Coastal blue carbon

That means finding new solutions for techniques that utilise mangroves, tidal marshes, seagrass meadows, and other coastal habitats to increase carbon-removing biomass and, in particular, soil carbon

Topic 7: Biomass storage

That means finding new solutions to convert biomass into derived materials with more durable storage than the biomass source, including using pyrolysis to convert biomass into bio-oil (fast pyrolysis) or biochar (slow pyrolysis)

Topic 8: Biomass energy with carbon capture and storage

That means finding new solutions that simultaneously capture and sequester some portion of the carbon from the biomass for storage

Topic 9: Direct Air Capture

That means finding new solutions that remove CO2 from ambient air and concentrate it for storage deep underground or use in a wide variety of products

Topic 10: Geological storage

That means finding new solutions that help with the injection of CO2 into a geologic formation deep underground for essentially permanent timescales and safely storing carbon removed from the atmosphere through DAC and BECCS.
