The European Innovation Council (EIC), within the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Programme, offers its beneficiaries useful content in a Resource Library, to help the community stay up to date on the latest climate-related topics. This time, we are covering information related to specific areas such as Energy, Food Industry, Green Electricity and Internal Carbon Pricing.
The EIC Community members can have a more detailed view of the new additions by accessing the EIC GHG Resource Library group.
In its latest edition, we look over important pieces of information, such as the executive summary from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) or the Food Security Information Network (FSIN) Global Report on Food Crisis (released in May 2022). Thus, offering insightful views on how to support the circular economy and its impacts on climate action:
-
‘World energy transitions outlook 2022’ – Showcasing the progress across all energy uses and the pathway towards the 1.5°C goal regarding the emissions reduction pledge. The importance of a wide-ranging shift in the current trajectory across all energy uses is still big, for a change of staying on the 1.5°C or even 2°C path. In addition, the acceleration of the energy transition is also essential for long-term energy security, price stability and national resilience. With each passing day, the cost of inaction pulls further ahead of the cost of action.
-
‘2022 Global report on food crisis’ – Highlighting the severity and numbers of people in crisis driven by climate change and weather extremes, as well as persistent conflict, and pre-existing and COVID-19-related economic shocks. With the alarming deterioration of acute food insecurity and the current economic challenges, the report focuses on the food-crisis countries/territories where there is ample evidence that the magnitude and severity of the food crisis exceed the local resources and capacities needed to respond effectively.
-
‘Renewable energy market update outlook for 2022 & 2023’ – Examining the ramifications of the current global energy issues and how it has added new urgency to accelerate clean energy transitions. Renewable energy has great potential to reduce prices and dependence on fossil fuels in the short and long term. However, how fast they can substitute fossil fuels depends on many factors. Hence why this report explores the most recent market and policy developments as of April 2022 and forecasts new global renewable power capacity additions and biofuel demand for 2022 and 2023.
-
‘State and trends of carbon pricing 2022’ – Providing a trusted global snapshot of carbon pricing developments in line with the Paris Agreement temperature goals. With the continuous escalation of the climate crisis amid a prolonged pandemic, increasing economic instability, and geopolitical tensions, the commitments made at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) keep hope alive that avoiding the worst effects of climate change is within our reach. This analysis shows us how the climate impact of carbon pricing depends on creating credible and more predictable support mechanisms to support long-term investments and incentivise low-carbon development – among others.
