The EU delegation of companies is ready to showcase at Gastech 2023, the world’s largest meeting place for natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, low-carbon solutions, and climate technologies, that will kick off in less than a month in Singapore. Ahead of the trade fair, we sat down for a fire side chat with Christopher Hudson, President, dmg events, who organise Gastech, along with over 30 of the leading energy events worldwide.
What should the attendees expect at Gastech 2023? Do you have a “must visit” area you would recommend?
The global energy landscape is facing some of the most significant market disruptions witnessed in decades. Against this backdrop, Gastech 2023 will affirm the role and importance of natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, and climate technologies in the evolving energy system, and will stake out a positive position for the sector ahead of the key COP 28 summit later this year.
Beyond that, Asia has a critical role to play in the global energy transition, and Gastech is proud to be the largest exhibition and conference of its kind taking place in the region this year.
Through our peer reviewed strategic conference programme, attendees can expect to build their knowledge and contextual awareness of how to advance the industry towards a cleaner, more affordable, and more secure energy future.
Over four days, over 600 strategic speakers – from policymakers to innovators and c-suite executives – will share valuable insights into the energy industry and its trajectory. These include Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes; Peter Clarke, Senior Vice President - Global LNG of ExxonMobil International Limited; Joseph McMonigle, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum; and Wu Junli, Chairman of PetroChina International.
It is hard to pick a “must visit” area when there is so much going on across the show. The Climatetech, hydrogen, and shipping and marine zones will all offer attendees a unique look at new products, solutions, and technologies at the cutting-edge of the energy industry… they are not to be missed.
In addition to the zones, the ongoing challenges facing the industry have reinforced the value of collaborative action and effective cross-border, cross-industry partnerships. With 750 exhibitors and 40,000+ energy professionals set to attend Gastech, I would encourage attendees not to miss out on the unparalleled opportunity to network with those seeking conversations, collaborations, and connections to address both the challenges, and opportunities, created by the energy transition.
Europe will have had a strong presence at the tradeshow. What added value does the European Pavilion bring to Gastech 2023?
The impact of Europe’s changing energy needs is keenly felt in Asia. Often resulting in market tightening and heightened levels of competition, Europe’s approach to the energy crisis will be a key theme of Gastech 2023.
The European Pavilion will be centric to Europe’s public and private sector participation in Gastech. It will be a hub for promoting the innovation and ingenuity of European companies in natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, and climate technologies, as well as the wider energy value chain. Attendees will explore the latest innovations from across Europe, from carbon capture to artificial intelligence, that have a central role to play in decarbonising the value chain.
The pavilion will provide a great opportunity for European and Asian companies to exchange lessons learnt across the areas they operate in, to boost bilateral trade, and offer solutions to the challenges which have hindered cross-border energy investment until now.
There will be 16 international country pavilions at Gastech this year, serving as a catalyst for international collaboration and enabling countries to showcase their advancements, technologies, and expertise on a global stage.
Delivering on actionable trade, knowledge sharing, and engagement opportunities, Gastech 2023 will seek to achieve consensus and cross-border collaboration - between Europe and Asia, and beyond - for the future of the global energy sector.
From your personal standpoint, how can Gastech help the European innovators overcome the barriers of internationalisation and forge strategic business partnerships in Singapore?
Gastech 2023 will act as a global convenor and facilitator of vital discussions on rethinking energy industry business models, to embrace low-carbon solutions and the new market opportunities they can create in Asia, and around the world.
Gastech will showcase how supportive policies can foster international strategic business partnerships and demonstrate the value of these partnerships in driving innovation, creating market demand, and building infrastructure.
With the right policies in place, European innovators have a significant role to play in supporting Asia's trajectory towards a sustainable future, where economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.
The scale of Gastech, and the diversity of senior industry leaders and companies participating, creates a truly unique opportunity to communicate this message across the industry.
Any piece of advice that you would like to share with the European entrepreneurs, who will showcase their impactful solutions onsite?
This year, Gastech has a number of enhanced features that entrepreneurs can benefit from. These include the dedicated start-up zone, which will help foster the creation of the new partnerships that are vital to addressing challenges of today’s energy system, and the hosted buyer programme, which will seamlessly connect buyers with relevant Gastech exhibitors.
As demand soars globally, we have also expanded the focus on hydrogen at Gastech 2023. The dedicated hydrogen zone and theatre will champion hydrogen as a low-carbon solution within the global energy system.
As well as showcasing their impactful solutions, these platforms and programmes will give European entrepreneurs the chance to explore new business opportunities, connect, and expand their professional networks across a rapidly transforming industry.
My advice is to embrace the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas with companies and start-ups from around the world. Its impossible to underestimate the value of face-to-face business, and with so many industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers attending Gastech, it is the ideal place to convene and be part of the conversations and solutions shaping the future of energy.
