On 26-27 August 2025, the European Innovation Council (EIC) held a Multi-Corporate Day with sustainability leaders Mota-Engil and VELUX in Copenhagen, alongside Tech BBQ 2025. 14 EIC-backed start-ups from 11 European countries, selected by Mota-Engil and VELUX and prepared by the EIC through targeted coaching and proposal feedback, pitched and met one-to-one with corporate experts and top industry decision-makers to explore potential business opportunities.

This acceleration activity, delivered under the EIC Corporate Partnership Programme, was designed to seamlessly connect market-ready solutions with pressing needs in design, construction and indoor climate, supporting pathways to pilots, co-development and investment discussions.

The Multi-Corporate Day once again exemplified the EIC's capacity to effectively connect Europe's foremost innovators with corporations prepared to adopt emerging technologies. Today, I observed an interesting chemistry between start-ups and the two corporations present; the interactions were targeted, constructive, and genuinely business-oriented, which we hope will soon culminate in tangible agreements.

— Ekke Van Vliet, Investment Coordinator, European Innovation Council (EIC)

For corporate teams, the activity provided a time-efficient view of relevant solutions and a basis for scoping trials with clear data and integration needs:

For Mota-Engil, the Day offered a concise view of solutions that directly align with our focus and interests. We are looking for technologies and solutions that are ready to pilot, and the start-ups we met today are at a maturity point, which is valuable to us. We discussed site realities, logistics, safety, certification, and how digital outputs slot into our planning workflows. Those exchanges gave us a better sense of where pilots could be practical rather than theoretical. We hope to take a few of these threads forward, starting with use cases that fit live projects.

Today has been valuable in connecting us with new start-ups that we actually did not know before. It allowed us in a rapid way to get a deep dive into a wide variety of start-ups. The preparation from the EIC ensured that the pitches were concise and comparable, which helped us judge both feasibility and potential. We hope to continue a small number of targeted discussions that could hopefully lead to sensible action.

The selected start-ups presented practical solutions across indoor climate, energy efficiency, circular materials, digital twins and construction productivity.

Meet the selected EIC-backed innovators:

  1. AIRLITE (United Kingdom) – Daylight-activated mineral coating for cleaner air, thermal comfort, and passive energy savings.
  2. CRIATERRA INNOVATIONS (Israel) – Kiln-free, cement-free tiles and panels with ultra-low embodied carbon and circular inputs.
  3. CROCUS LABS (Germany) – Spectral sensing and adaptive lighting aligned with circadian rhythms for wellbeing and efficiency.
  4. EVEROX (C2CA TECHNOLOGY) (Netherlands) – Industrial upcycling of waste concrete into new aggregates, sand and binder.
  5. LUMOVIEW BUILDING ANALYTICS (Germany) – Rapid room-scale digitisation producing BIM outputs and energy-relevant data.
  6. MATERRUP (France) – Low-carbon, cold-activated clay cement suitable for mainstream concrete uses.
  7. PAEBBL (Sweden) – Accelerated CO₂ mineralisation creating carbon-efficient materials for the built environment.
  8. PARASTRUCT (Austria) – Bio-aggregate screeds from reactivated binders for thermal, moisture and acoustic comfort.
  9. SAALG GEOMECHANICS (Spain) – Cloud platform fusing monitoring data with models to optimise geotechnical designs.
  10. SIMLAB (Poland) – 3D digital twin platform linking BIM, scans and IoT for design, installation and operations.
  11. SOLARGAPS (Ukraine) – Smart solar blinds combining shading with on-site electricity generation.
  12. TECHNOCARBON (France) – Stone-carbon composite elements enabling low-carbon structure and integrated shading.
  13. TREBLE TECHNOLOGIES (Iceland) – Cloud acoustic simulation and AV demos to quantify and improve indoor sound.
  14. VIZCAB (COMBO SOLUTIONS) (France) – Life-cycle assessment platform enabling early-stage embodied-carbon decisions.

For participating EIC-backed start-ups, the Multi-Corporate Day offered direct access to corporate decision-makers, immediate technical guidance and clarity on procurement pathways, turning conversations into defined next steps:

Meeting VELUX and Mota-Engil in one place gave us a clear view of where our technologies add value today for large corporations. The feedback on our technology was concrete and immediately useful. We had a good conversation with corporates today, and it seems we are going to start some proof-of-concept projects with them, as a result of today. We hope to continue the dialogue to build on these conversations and, hopefully, lead to production usage.

About the EIC Corporate Partnership Programme

The EIC Corporate Partnership Programme allows EIC-backed innovators to boost their network and do business with relevant decision-makers from the largest companies in Europe. Since 2017, the EIC Corporate Partnership Programme has organised 80 initiatives with +120 corporate partners, including ABB, Airbus, BMW, CaixaBank, Commerzbank, Enel, Ferrovial, L'Oreal, Medtronic, Neste, Roche, Saint-Gobain, Shell, Siemens Energy, Solvay, and Telefonica. Over 1,200 EIC-funded start-ups and scale-ups, and over +2,500 corporate high-level representatives have been able to participate in these initiatives, reporting a significant business impact, follow-ups, and business deals.

The EIC is looking for large corporations with an open innovation spirit, interested in integrating innovations coming from start-ups, scaleups and research projects directly into their business offering, procurement and R&D activities, as well as investing in highly innovative/deep tech companies. Open application for corporations.

We have recently published a report on Unlocking Innovation through Corporate-Startup Collaboration, outlining strategies for enhanced collaboration and providing a blueprint for scaling deep tech through insights from over 1,500 engagements and 120 partners. As Europe accelerates its green and digital transitions, such partnerships are crucial for scaling breakthrough technologies and enhancing resilience. It discusses what drives successful partnerships, how to align strategy and culture, and why structured collaboration is vital for deep tech growth in Europe.  Read the full report and discover the programme here.
