Europe is at a digital crossroads. While 90% of jobs now require digital skills, nearly half of EU adults still lack them — a gap that threatens competitiveness, innovation, and even daily participation in society. From cybersecurity to AI literacy, the need for robust digital skills has never been more urgent.

The European Commission is taking bold steps: updating the Digital Competence Framework in 2025, rolling out new guidelines for digital literacy in vocational training, and preparing a 2030 Roadmap to ensure equal access to digital education. The ambition is clear — to future-proof Europe’s workforce, close the digital divide, and inspire the next generation of STEM leaders, particularly women and girls.

As EU Code Week 2025 approaches, it will gather policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to debate what’s working, what’s missing, and how Europe can truly “code” its way to competitiveness.

Key questions include:
