nomad

Materials &/or Technologies to enable technically recyclable Vacuum Packaging for frozen foods
Nomad Foods

About

Nomad Foods is an European multinational and global leader in frozen foods, committed to sustainability, innovation and high-quality nutrition. With a strong focus on reducing environmental impact, seeks cutting-edge solutions to enhance packaging recyclability and improve the overall sustainability of its products.

The Challenge

The challenge focuses on developing materials or technologies that enable technically recyclable vacuum packaging for frozen foods. It aims to improve:

  • The recyclability of vacuum-sealed packaging while maintaining barrier properties that protect food quality.
  • The use of mono-materials or other sustainable alternatives to replace non-recyclable multi-material packaging.

The goal is to develop a scalable, cost-effective solution that meets recycling guidelines, ensures frozen food integrity and aligns with Nomad Foods' sustainability commitments.

Timeframe

  • Deadline for Submitting Proposals: 30 June, 2025

Who can apply

  • New materials or technologies that can make vacuum packaging recyclable according to Nomad Foods' definition (minimum of 90% single polymer type – following CEFLEX Guidance).
  • Understanding of commercial viability or a clear route to achieving it.
