About

Tata Steel is an Indian multinational and a global leader in steel production, manufacturing, and industrial solutions, with a focus on sustainability, innovation and advanced recycling processes.  

The Challenge

The challenge focuses on optimizing the identification, sorting and quality control of scrap materials in the steel recycling process. Its aim is to improve:   

  • The efficiency of separating ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials after magnetic sorting.   
  • The automation of sorting processes to reduce dependence on manual labor.  

The goal is to develop an automated solution that effectively identifies and separates ferrous scrap from non-ferrous materials, improving accuracy and ensuring a more streamlined operation.  

Reward

Successful proposals may receive funding and collaboration opportunities with Tata Steel to implement and scale the proposed solutions.  

Timeframe

  • Deadline for Submitting Offers: 31 March, 2025 

Who can apply

  • Solutions with TRLs 7-9   
  • Automated systems for identification and categorization of incoming scrap materials  
  • Automated sorting systems to sort ferrous from non-ferrous materials
