The EIC-funded company was one of the seven winners of the 2018-2019 European Business Awards for the Environment, the scheme that rewards the businesses that are making the most outstanding contribution to sustainable development through eco-innovation. The start-up headquartered in Vienna received the Business Process Award for its R&D and manufacturing of an innovative Rotation Heat Pump that is particularly suitable for large-scale industrial use.

Ecop-Technologies manufactures rotation heat pumps for industrial use. Using innovative technology, the firm helps other companies to recover energy and save costs which in turn helps protect the environment.

"With our rotation heat pump, we reach in specific applications return on investments within three to seven years and compared to burning gas, but we save an enormous amount of CO2 and this is the reason why we get supported by the EU through the horizon 2020 program," says ECOP's CEO, Bernhard Adler, during an interview to Euronews.

Ecop is a multi-award-winning company. In October 2018 they received the Austrian Clean Technology State Prize2018 in the category “Environment, Climate and Energy” awarded by the Austrian Federal Minister of Sustainability and Tourism and since then, the start-up has continued to grow, counting several national and international patents. The working medium is ecologically sustainable (environmentally neutral, no release of greenhouse gases possible, non-flammable) and deserved greater attention from the Austrian Federal Minister of Sustainability and Tourism, Elisabeth Köstinger:

“This technology perfectly fulfils the objectives that the Federal Government indicated in the Austrian Climate and Energy Strategy, #mission2030, and in the Master Plan Environmental Technology. This project reduces our reliance on fossil energy and, at the same time, promotes renewable energy sources”, she added.

The Minister added that “due to the development of this novel heat pump technology “made in Austria”, Ecop Technologies has become an Austrian showpiece company which implements its innovative ideas consistently, produces in Upper Austria and conducts research in Vienna”.

The Upper Austrian high-tech company believes that “innovation is the key to transform the current economic system into a green economy”. The project has received a total of 1.750.000 € Phase 2 grant from the EIC SME Instrument program. Next year Ecop-Technologies will start a crowd investing campaign.
