The European Innovation Council (EIC), within the Greenhouse Gas Programme (GHG) initiative, invites all EIC beneficiaries to engage in sustainable measures to reduce their emissions while being up to win a part of the 200 tonnes of carbon credits (tCO2e).

Applications are open until 31 August 2022.

Express your interest and apply to not miss this opportunity!

To increase companies’ emission reduction commitment, the EIC is allowing beneficiaries to work together on sustainable measures and win a part of the 200 tCO2e of carbon credits! Through this, EIC beneficiaries can take a closer look at their greenhouse gas emissions, to undergo sustainable actions that bring them closer to Carbon Neutrality.

What are carbon credits?

To reach Carbon Neutrality, companies have begun to put in place a strategy to reduce their emissions. Nonetheless, while implementing a reduction plan, current emissions might still be high for most companies. To compensate for this, companies can purchase (small) parts of projects which help reduce or avoid emissions coming into the air (like reforestation projects). These are called carbon credits and are in demand now, which increases their value.

Hence the benefits of reducing emissions are many and include:

  • Bottom line savings (in times of very rapidly rising energy prices)

  • Reduction of financial and physical risks

  • Developing resilience

  • Improving local environmental conditions

  • Aligning to future reporting obligations

In early 2022, the EIC launched its “Journey to Carbon Neutrality”, where beneficiaries could get a Carbon Neutrality label and be awarded a personal advisor to guide them along their journey. Presently, more than 10 groups of beneficiaries have been launched and conducted throughout the Journey toward Carbon Neutrality.

Who can participate?

All EIC companies that want to fulfil their emission reduction commitments.

What will you gain?

The companies involved in the process will have access to:

  • 1 webinar dedicated to carbon footprint and emission reduction on 12 July (sign up before 8 July)

  • 2 open Q&A sessions with experts (for those who joined the webinar that will take place on 12 July)

200 tonnes of carbon credits will be offered to a drawn group of companies that reach the EIC CO2 reduction label requirements. To be eligible for this, the requirements involve a 5% emission reduction per year (see more about it in the tool).
