Having participated in numerous trade fairs under the EIC Overseas Trade Fairs (OTF) Programme 2.0, Elliptic Labs have benefited from significant business impact in Europe and overseas. The VP of Product Marketing & Sales, Patrick Tsui, points out the positive experience being a selected exhibitor at the EIC Pavilion in Hannover Messe in 2023 and shares insightful tips for a successful presence in high-level business events.

What is the business impact created following your participation in the trade fair? Is there any milestone achievement to announce?

PT: Hannover Messe 2023 was a great event with a lot of interest in Elliptic Labs’ solutions, that gave a lot of visitors and business meetings at the event and afterwards. We were able to establish leads in various countries. In addition, we identified new distributors to expand our presence into other countries.

Because we are a public company and our opportunities cannot be announced until our partners and customers are ready to publicly announce them as well, we are currently unable to concretely announce any milestone achievements. Nonetheless, we can safely confirm that establishing these leads would have been very difficult to reach had we not attended Hannover Messe with the support provided by the EIC and the exposure received with the OTF 2.0 Programme.

To what extent OTF 2.0 helped you in achieving your organisation goals and business growth?

PT: The EIC OTF Programme 2.0 significantly contributed to Elliptic Labs’ organisational goals and business growth through several key mechanisms:

  1. Expanding Elliptic Labs reach and visibility to customers/partners.  OTF has helped us create a much more visible brand of Elliptic Labs and being part of the EIC Pavilion has provided potential clients that otherwise would be hard to approach without the EU recognition of the company.
  2. Providing a scalable platform to demonstrate our technological leadership and innovations. In fact, provided it would have been possible to ramp up the supply chain faster the revenue could have surpassed expectations.
  3. Lending more credibility to our organisation through our presence at the numerous trade shows and affiliation with EIC/OTF 2.0.
  4. Gathering valuable market insights by engaging with attendees and observing competitors and adapting our business strategy and product development.
  5. Participating in different trade fairs under the OTF 2.0 Programme, namely CES 2023, Hannover Messe 2023 and GITEX 2023 led to opportunities for entering new markets and expanding globally.

From your experience with OTF 2.0, what business aspects do you think exhibitors should consider when preparing for tradeshows, both locally and internationally?

PT: Exhibitors should take advantage of the great opportunities when preparing for trade fairs by identifying and setting up ahead of time customer and partner meetings at the tradeshow. This is particularly impactful for international (i.e. non-local) customers and partners.

You need to be fully focused on what your purpose of participation is as this determines the story you want to tell. If you are looking for investors, you can exhibit early and largely promote ideas and possibly get investments for getting the product out in pilot and have it tested in a real environment.

If you go for the sale of products and solutions, it must have high functionality and be finished for the market.

At the shows, make sure you have a catchy punchline or phrase as an eye catcher and make sure it reflects what you want to say.

Finally, could you offer any additional tips to prospective applicants?

PT: My main additional tip to prospective applicants is to take full advantage of every resource that OTF 2.0 provides, from pitch help to booth design and everything in between. OTF 2.0 is a wonderful opportunity to get more exposure, guidance, and growth for your organisation and you’ll be lucky to be a part of it. In addition, you should make sure that you have the right and enough team members for manning the booth as it is a busy place. Make sure to have something to show/ demonstrate that can activate the spectator, as it spurs significantly more interest.
