The European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot's funded company Nova Innovation is flying the flag for Europe’s renewable energy industry after winning the Enterprise Europe Network Award 2018 for its ground-breaking projects in tidal energy and micro-grids.

Nova Innovation won the award for its development and expansion of the world’s first offshore tidal array in Bluemull Sound in Shetland.

EU support helped this SME develop the world's first grid-compliant tidal array. As a result, the company's turnover has doubled year-on-year and staff numbers have risen from 4 to 35.

“It’s wonderful to receive this prestigious award and it is testament to the hard work and exceptional calibre of the teams involved.  Tidal energy is the next big global renewable resource to come to market. It has the huge advantage of being highly predictable. The tidal energy sector also has enormous potential to provide jobs, boost economic growth in coastal regions and drive exports.”, said Simon Forrest, Chief Executive Officer at Nova Innovation.

The award marked the tenth anniversary of the Enterprise Europe Network, which brings together around 600 business support organisations from more than 60 countries to help European businesses innovate and grow internationally. Nominations were proposed from countries throughout Europe, across all sectors.
