Who can apply?

Applications are open to all EIC-backed companies with market-ready or near-market solutions addressing sustainable construction, indoor climate, and energy efficiency.

Mota-Engil (MEXT) and Velux seek innovative solutions for healthier, sustainable living spaces, focusing on smart design, energy efficiency, advanced materials, and indoor climate optimization. Their challenges aim to enhance comfort, functionality, and environmental impact, inviting startups to shape the future of eco-conscious construction.

Challenge 1: Design, planning and construction of healthy and sustainable living spaces

Mota-Engil (MEXT) and Velux seek innovative platforms, services, and concepts to design, plan and construct healthier, sustainable living spaces. Desirable solutions will bridge across the areas of energy efficiency, indoor climate, health & well-being, and environmental sustainability in a user-friendly way for either homeowners, professionals, or both.

  • Category 1 – Smart design tools for professionals: Tools that help architects and designers optimise natural light, energy use, and air quality in buildings.
  • Category 2 – Construction technologies: Technologies, software, and tools that enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability across the construction process.
  • Category 3: Homeowner platforms for sustainable living: Platforms or apps guiding homeowners in making eco-friendly choices, improving indoor comfort, and minimising environmental impact.
  • Category 4 – Sustainable and circular building materials: Solutions focused on selecting or sourcing sustainable, energy-efficient building materials that enhance the long-term health and desirability of living spaces.
  • Category 5 – Carbon footprint calculation and monitoring: Technologies and tools that enable the measurement, tracking, and reduction of carbon emissions throughout all phases of construction.
  • Category 6 – Other relevant solutions related to Challenge 1
Challenge 2: Indoor climate and energy efficiency solutions for healthy and sustainable living spaces

Mota-Engil (MEXT) and Velux are looking for products, services, and technologies that enhance indoor climate (e.g. improve indoor air quality, reduce undesirable noise, prevent overheating, optimize thermal comfort), improve energy efficiency, and reduce operating costs. These solutions should contribute to healthier, more sustainable homes and buildings.

  • Category 1 – Exceptional thermal comfort: Solutions which create optimal occupant experience, for example by reducing overheating or cold drafts.
  • Category 2 – Improving energy efficiency: Systems that intelligently maximise energy efficiency, sustainability (e.g. prioritising energy use when renewable energy mix is high), and indoor comfort while reducing overall cost (including CAPEX and OPEX).
  • Category 3 – Indoor air quality improvement: Methods or technologies which can improve monitoring of air quality and orchestrate better responses to maintain healthy indoor environments.
  • Category 4 – Other relevant solutions related to Challenge 2
