On November 11 it has been celebrated in Lisbon the 10th edition of the Innovation Radar Prize! This year, 7 of the 12 finalists for the prize were previously funded by the European Innovation Council – 5 from the Pathfinder/Transition programs and 2 from the Accelerator program. During the event, the 12 startups pitched their innovations, competing in 3 categories, health tech, nextgen tech and sustainability tech.
Out of these 12 finalists, EIC is thrilled to share that all the 4 winners this year have been supported by the European Innovation Council programs!
The Innovation Radar Prize is co-organised by the European Commission and Dealflow.eu, in partnership with Eura AG, Dealroom.co, Startup Lisboa, the European Startup Nations Alliance (ESNA), EU-Startups and Unicorn Factory Lisboa. Since 2015, the Innovation Radar, a groundbreaking initiative by the European Commission, seeks out high-potential innovations and innovators within EU-funded research and innovation projects.
This year, a short list of innovations was selected from over 240 applicants by the Innovation Radar Committee and Dealflow.eu Committee and submitted for open voting to all citizens. The open voting gathered more than 2300 voters and was weighed against the judgment of outside evaluators, experts in the field.
This Innovation Radar Prize’s edition happened right before the Web Summit in Lisbon and it has been the occasion to celebrate the best EU-funded innovators, gaining significant exposure to the influential EU investor community. In fact, the event also included panels and keynotes from leading experts in the EU startups ecosystem.
The Innovation Radar Prize is indeed a unique opportunity to give visibility to those innovators that are willing to embrace the journey of commercialisation. For this reason, EIC is proud to celebrate the four winners, that were all funded under EIC programmes:
- Gelatex (EIC Transition) - HealthTech category winner
- Qilimanjaro (EIC Transition) - NextGenTech category winner
- AEInnova (EIC Accelerator) - SustainabilityTech category winner
- Cellis (EIC Transition) - Overall winner
More about the Innovation Radar initiative
The Innovation Radar is a European Commission initiative to identify high potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation projects. Its goal is to allow every citizen, public official, professional and businessperson to discover the outputs of EU innovation funding and give them a chance to seek out innovators who could follow in the footsteps of companies such as Skype, TomTom, ARM Holdings, all of whom received EU funding in their early days.
In 2023, Dealflow.eu organised the first in-person event to host the Innovation Radar Prize. The event was held at Microsoft Lisbon and welcomed over 200 participants, including over 100 investors.
