EU actions to address cross-border health threats: download the State of Health Preparedness Report 2023
In December 2023, the European Union (EU) marks four years since the detection of SARS-CoV-2, leading to global health crises. New legislation, including Regulation (EU) 2022/2371, strengthens the EU's health security framework. This regulation, proposed in 2020, enhances mechanisms for public health prevention, preparedness, and response, forming the backbone of the European Health Union. Operational since September 2021, the Union includes the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA). The annual State of Health Preparedness Report reflects the evolving risk landscape and outlines EU actions to address cross-border health threats, emphasizing a 'One Health' approach for comprehensive prevention and preparedness.
