2 and 3 December 2020 marked the 10th EIC Corporate Day of the year. Together with Caixabank Payments and Consumer we dived into the world of fintech, inviting 24 EIC-innovators from 12 different countries to pitch their innovations.

A total of 117 innovative solutions to tackle the coronavirus have been selected as winners of the European Innovation Council-led #EUvsVirus Hackathon. The event, which involved over 380 volunteers, 2,400 mentors and over 800 partners, brought together over 20,900 participants from 141 different nationalities, as well as different areas of expertise and backgrounds.

The European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot delivers real value Business Acceleration Services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) equipped with a grant by the European Commission. After a year filled with networking opportunities, workshops sessions and matchmaking events it’s important to take the time to reflect.
On 15 April 2020 seven EIC-backed innovators had the chance to show their COVID-19 solutions during a dedicated EIC ePitching session with Investors. This session was hosted after the overwhelming attention and innovative solutions that were being proposed in the EIC Community.

On 3 and 4 June 2020 the European Innovation Council celebrated the launched of a brand-new initiative specifically focused on the EU Green Deal. The EIC Planet.tech brings together EIC-backed start-ups/scale-ups with four large corporates, namely AB inBev, DEME, Nestle and P&G, with the objective to develop a number of impactful Proof of Concepts (PoC). Nicolas Verschelden, Head of Digital Innovation ABI Europe and Managing Partner Dream Tech alliance, a joint consortium of different tech-partners that co-innovate and co-invest together, goes deeper into AB InBev’s motivations for joining Planet.tech and what they are hoping to get out of it.
The Advanced Technologies for Industry (ATI) project is organising a policy seminar on 6 May 2021 to share insights on “Scaling up in Advanced Technologies”.
We spoke with Daniele Biffi from the EIC-funded company DVP Vacuum Technology to discover which steps are they taking to monitor data and reduce CO2 emissions with the support of the EIC Greenhouse Gas tool.

José de Mello Group partnered up with the European Innovation Council for the EIC Procurers Day on 18 & 19 March 2021. EIC Procurers days are tailor-made and highly effective acceleration services to facilitate collaboration between large procurer departments and EIC-funded innovators.
On 30 September 2021, Parkering Malmö partnered up with the European Innovation Council to address an important question: achieving sustainability in parking for the greater good of the city.
This year the Tech.eu Summit will take place on 17 May 2022 in a hybrid format at Brussels Expo. The European Innovation Council has partnered with Tech.eu Summit and the EIC community can benefit from a discount of 25% when purchasing the tickets for the event.
The past five years were the five hottest years since record-keeping began in 1880. It has become clear that the current Global Warming is caused by greenhouse gases emissions like carbon dioxide and methane. And the burning of fossil fuels by industries is the main contributor to this. But Carbon Clean Solutions Ltd. is reducing industrial CO2 emissions with an innovative technology. The company is of one of the few startups in the world specialised in carbon capture.
From longer droughts to increased flooding and more robust crop diseases, climate change is creating new challenges for the European agriculture sector. With more accurate and reliable water data, crop yields on agricultural land can be improved and this information can help to fight the global food and water crisis. Through the support of the EIC-funded WATER4AGRI project, the Dutch company VanderSat developed a technology that can accurately measure the location and amount of water in the soil, anywhere in the world.
The EIC Greenathon finished well over a month ago. The coming months we will be meeting up with EIC-beneficiaries and corporates alike, to discuss what’s in the pipeline for 2021.

Pathfinder and Accelerator are two funding schemes proposed by the Enhanced European Innovation Council (EIC). How do these funding schemes go together?
Every year millions of tons of plastic waste end up on our streets, in our rivers and covering our forests. A large part of this waste comes from packaging. The plastic bags we use, for only a few minutes, can last as long as 15 to 1,000 years in the environment and, according to a recent study, people could be ingesting or inhaling approximately 5 grams of plastic every week. The Finnish start-up Paptic Ltd, founded in 2015, addresses this environmental challenge with a sustainable alternative to plastic films. Paptic material has all the advantages of plastic - it's versatile, reusable, light-weight, soft, but it's made of renewable raw materials and it’s recyclable.
More than 30 female CEOs of startups, willing to take the next step of their leadership journey, joined the first EIC Community Training on Women in Leadership, which took place on 4 December 2020.

According to the official Earth Day site, the theme for this year's Earth Day is climate action. But while this day is a 24-h celebration, many start-ups spend the entire year going green, with innovating projects to accomplish this goal. For the first time the EIC is collaborating with the German Association of Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics (BME) to introduce your services to the Pharma Supply Chain Managers in company pitches, business speed dating and prescheduled B2B matchmakings. This workshop will take place in Dresden, Germany on the 4th of March and the overall conference takes place from 3rd to the 5th of March 2020. Applications are due on 31 January 2020.

The European Innovation Council (EIC), in collaboration with BBVA and Ferrovial, organised an online Corporate Day on 26 and 27 May 2020, bringing together 19 EIC-backed SMEs with over 50 corporates representatives. In this week’s edition, we meet with MYSPHERA, a Spanish-based company that developed a surgical automated patient-flow energy control tool that allows hospitals to adapt climate conditions inside operating rooms.
With oceans becoming clogged by plastics, companies are introducing eco-friendly consumer products to take advantage of the public growing concerns over plastic waste. Most of the plastics are actually packaging. This problem has been addressed by some biodegradable solutions such as bioplastic, paper or even bamboo containers. However, they still need at least half a year to degrade. Warsaw-based manufacturer Biotrem is making more than 10 million pieces of biodegradable disposable (single-use) tableware and cutlery that compost — without need for industrial composting facilities — within 30 days.
For the very first time, the European Innovation Council organised the Coordinators’ Day virtually, meeting the companies funded by the EIC under Phase 2 in an online session. The purpose was to gather the EIC coordinators from the recently awarded projects, get familiar with the project management procedures and discover more in-depth the Business Acceleration Services.
