KnowBe4, the provider of the world’s largest security awareness training (SAT) and simulated phishing platform, announced the acquisition of CLTRe - a Norwegian company focused on helping organizations assess, build, maintain and measure a strong security posture. CLTRe will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary of KnowBe4, and service customers globally. CLTRe’s Toolkit and Security Culture Framework will be available to all KnowBe4 customers later this year.

European Innovation Council pilot's funded Finnish company ICEYE has been featured in BBC for an impressive demonstration of its novel technology's capabilities. The company is the first in the world to achieve better than 1 meter resolution imagery from under-100kg (220 pounds) SAR satellites. This level of performance is expected from traditional spacecraft that weigh a tonne or more and cost in excess of one hundred million euros, but Iceye's breakthrough satellites are the size of a suitcase and cost only a couple of million to build.

Small, innovative, companies create the majority of new jobs in the European economy. Technological advances are making it easier and cheaper to start enterprises with limited own resources - but SMEs often struggle to scale up and create new jobs, including recruiting talent. EASME will provide funds to employ a post-doctoral researcher for one year to work on an innovative project in an SME to address these challenges and develop the ecosystem of innovation support to SMEs in Europe.

With oceans becoming clogged by plastics, companies are introducing eco-friendly consumer products to take advantage of the public growing concerns over plastic waste. Most of the plastics are actually packaging. This problem has been addressed by some biodegradable solutions such as bioplastic, paper or even bamboo containers. However, they still need at least half a year to degrade. Warsaw-based manufacturer Biotrem is making more than 10 million pieces of biodegradable disposable (single-use) tableware and cutlery that compost — without need for industrial composting facilities — within 30 days.

108 innovative projects will get support from the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot to bring their innovations faster onto the market. The total amount to be distributed to the projects under the EIC Accelerator and the Fast Track to Innovation strands of the EIC pilot is €210.216 million. Each project will receive between €0.5 and €3 million. With this funding and extra business acceleration support, innovative companies will be able to finance their close-to-market innovation activities and get on the market faster.

92 companies funded by the SME Instrument under Phase 2 met on 15/16 October, in Brussels, for the Welcome Days.
