Events: EIC Investor Day focused on Green Deal

The EIC Investor Day on the Green Deal, which took place on 10-11 November; focused on green technologies, and how we can make our world cleaner with less CO2. The event featured four dedicated pitching sessions, dozens of one-to-one meetings with investors, three panels exploring the sustainable/impact investments landscape,  private investments needed in order to reach the ambitious targets of the Green Deal and, last but not least, showcasing some of the EIC green tech success stories. 

The event featured four pitching sessions where 36 innovative green companies will pitch in front of more than 40 leading investors on climate tech. Their innovations are focused on the following topics:  

  • Climate change, resources efficiencies and sustainable agri-food tech; 
  • Renewable energy; 
  • Sustainable cities and circular economy; 
  • Green transport & Mobility;

In addittion to the pitchings, the event featured many seminars and presentations. On the first day, the discussion kicked off with a panel focusing on “What should companies know about sustainable and impact investments”. During the discussion, Cansu Deniz Bayrak (Bethnal Green Ventures), Remy de Tonnac (ETF Partners), Ignasi Vilajosana (Worldsensing) and Matteo Renoldi (Dealroom) discussed the landscape of sustainable investing and impact investing, differences and similarities, presenting the main players, exchange on the differences between sustainable/impact and traditional investors and brainstorm on what should companies know to successfully pitch to impact investors. 

 

At 12.30, Stephane Ouaki, Head of Financial Instruments unit DG Research and Innovation presented the EIC Fund, the VC Fund created by the European Commission to invest in game-changing SMEs.

On the second day, the event started with a presentation by Azeem Azhar Founder of Exponential View, and co-author of the recently published report “State of Climate Tech 2020”, followed up by the panel discussion “Investing in Climate Tech: the bet on the future”. During the panel discussion, Kristin Aamodt (ArcTern Ventures) Diego Diaz Pilas (New Ventures, Iberdrola), Yann Lagalaye (Demeter), Yousef Yousef (EIC Advisory Board) and Janne Jormalainen (EBAN Board Member and Impact Committee Co-Chair) debated on the key drivers and challenges faced by investors in green technologies, looking at different perspectives. The profitability of green investments, the influence of the Covid19 crisis, the Green Deal, and the role of private investors will be some of the topics discussed during this roundtable.

In the afternoon, there was the opportunity to discover some of the EIC green tech stories. Bastien Oggeri (InnovaFeed), André Mão de Ferro (Charge2C-NewCap), Ainhoa Lete (BUNT PLANET SL), Richard Hardiman (RanMarine Technology) and Malgorzata Then (Biotrem SP. z o.o) shared their journeys, challenges and discuss the benefits of being a green tech company.
