After organising sessions about COVID-19, cybersecurity and eHealth, among other topics, Mobility & Transport is the key focus for next weeks’ event. With the role of transport in (large) cities under scrutiny and undergoing constant changes, the world is currently at a crossroad. New innovative solutions in mobility keep emerging, from self-driving cars to share ride-apps, thereby changing the face of the transport-sector constantly. The following seven EIC-backed innovators are all driving innovative solutions in the mobility-field and hoping to contribute to this change.

AI in transport

The trend of urbanization is one of the causes for mobility problems, CO2 emission and fatalities with pedestrians and bicycles. It is no surprise that solutions are being offered by a company based in a country with more bicycles than inhabitants. Netherlands-based ViNotion BV is using AI to monitor all traffic, including these vulnerable users, and provide detailed information for improved traffic control. The throughput is typically improved with 20% and the CO2 emission is reduced considerably. The system offers more value for a lower price. Cybertron Tech Gmbh is a high-performance mixed signal artificial intelligence chip company founded by a doctoral team from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 2017 with offices in Switzerland, it currently has 9 employees, 80% of whom hold PHD degree. So far, the chip has been successfully taped out and is at the stage of customers testing.

Securaxis is another start up that is using AI-based innovations in the transport sector. The Swiss company, founded in Geneva in 2015, revolves around the development, installation and operation of safety and security smart solutions. Securaxis Smart Acoustic Sensor turns sound into actionable insights by combining acoustic and Artificial Intelligence, thus adding the missing layer to smart cities: the hearing, sound analytics. Bulgarian IT start up Transmetrics AD is offering predictive optimization products for the cargo transport industry. With the support of the EIC Phase 2 funding, the company is currently developing the first augmented intelligence asset optimization solution for the mid-sized market.

Finally, UK tech start-up Albora Technologies has built and patented the Albora Correlation Engine, which uses AI and, in particular, biologically inspired Deep Learning Networks to achieve the performance required by the sector. Moreover, their technology can be embedded on the electronics currently available on autonomous vehicles, allowing them to keep the costs extremely low.

Energy and transport systems of the future

LeydenJar Technologies is a Dutch high-tech venture that develops pure silicon anode production platforms for battery makers. With pure silicon anodes, the energy density of Li-ion batteries is boosted with more than 50%, enabling a range of product innovations, from e-flight to electric vehicles. Their PECVD machines produce at cost parity with traditional anode production, but with 40% less CO2. Spain’s Zeleros is leading the hyperloop development, a new transport system to move at 1000 km/h sustainably and with 0 emissions. Zeleros' vehicle technologies reduce infrastructure costs enabling operation at safe pressure levels. The company mobilizes +100 people and collaborates with global leaders for the construction of their 2-kilometer test-track and is currently raising a 5M€ investment round.

Considering applying next time? As a member of the EIC Community, you will be able to follow the ePitching session and watch the companies selected by the investors within the EIC ScaleUp EU tool presenting their business cases. Just join us following this link on 14 May, 12.00 pm.

The EIC ePitching sessions are a regular part of the European Innovation Council Business Acceleration Services. For June we have planned another ePitching session on SaaS & ICT solutions. Keep your eyes on our EIC Community for more information and future ePitching sessions in 2020.
