The European Innovation Council (EIC), together with Třinecké Železárny and Refrasil, is organising an EIC Multi-Procurer Day that’s taking place on 28 February and 1 March 2023. This online event aims to match EIC beneficiaries with the procurer’s needs on topics of interest for each of the procurers.

Interested in this opportunity?

Make sure to apply until 16 December 2022!

Třinecké Železárny, a.s., is an important metallurgical corporate, and a relevant element of the region and the town of Třinec (CZ). Its annual production is approximately 2.6 million tonnes of steel and its main products include mainly long rolled products - rolled wire, shaped steel, special bar steel, drawn steel, rails including accessories for railway superstructure, wide steel, seamless pipes and metallurgical semi-finished products.

Refrasil, s.r.o., is one of the most prominent corporates of the Czech metallurgical ceramics industry. Its focus is on the production of refractory materials for the lining of metallurgical facilities and the production of building refractory materials and substances. The international prestige of the company has increased with its admission to the European Association of Refractory Material Manufacturers. The company has implemented a quality control system according to ISO 9001.

With that in mind, the EIC, Třinecké Železárny and Refrasil are calling for action and looking for companies and startups that are willing to present their innovative solutions to procurers in the topics of interest explained below. The selected EIC beneficiaries will then get the chance to pitch their innovations and solutions during the online event on 28 February and 1 March 2023.

Who can apply?

All EIC beneficiaries working on innovative products or services with market maturity in the mentioned topics of interest, that can respond to the needs of the challenges below.

What challenges should you prepare for?

Třinecké Železárny

Challenge 1 – Digitalisation of iron and steel production:

Třinecké Železárny is looking for the implementation of process models and software solutions (planning, logistic) based on novel technologies (e.g., AI, machine learning, big data).

Challenge 2 – Decarburisation technologies for metallurgy:

Producing steel via BF-BOF technology which is CO2 intensive. Třinecké Železárny is looking for innovative solutions that can be implemented on coke batteries, sinter plants, and blast furnaces to decrease the level of CO2 (and other pollutants) per ton of production or save the energy used during the production.

Challenge 3 – Circular economy:

During the production of iron and steel arises a lot of secondary products like slags, sludges and dust. A lot of them are already used in other industries (production of cement, concrete, road construction) but there are still secondary products without possible usage and are in landfill. Třinecké Železárny is looking for innovative technologies for alternative usage of selected products, to decrease the amount of material which must be nowadays landfill. Some of the materials can be also interesting for other industries (also tracing the amount of Br, Rb, Se, Ta…).

Refrasil

Challenge 1 – Digitalisation and automatisation of refractory production:

Refrasil is looking for solutions that enable the implementation of process models and software solutions (planning, logistic) and novel technologies for product quality control and handling (e.g., AI, machine learning, industrial robots).

Challenge 2 – Circular economy:

Refrasil is looking for new solutions and applications to process mixed refractory materials after usage (Al2O3 and MgO-based materials) so these materials can be reused back into production.

Challenge 3 – Power + energy saving technologies:

Production of fired refractory bricks demands a high amount of energy with average consumption of 4,4 GJ/t of production. Refrasil is looking for technical solutions to decrease energy consumption and/or novel technologies for refractory production.
