Coming back from a busy day at work, for a long trip by car, we all choose take-away beverages. If you’re in need of some refreshment, you can find them in large coolers in gas stations, supermarkets and in other stores. Most of these coolers consume high amounts of energy, take up a lot of space and are, often, very basic in their design. Nordic 24/7 comes with a solution. With their space cooler ‘Home of Cool’, they are bringing a sleeker, smarter and more eco-friendly cooler to stores and restaurants near you.

Finnish start-up Nordic 24/7 Services Ltd. has created a novel electronic and environmentally friendly space cooler. ‘Home of Cool’ is 90% lighter than traditional cooling devices and 100% recyclable, meaning a significant smaller carbon footprint compared to traditional coolers. In addition to being more eco-friendly, the ‘Home of Cool’ also boosts a sleek design, made with natural materials like wood, which was an important aspect for the company.

Veli Eloranta, founder and CEO of Nordic 24/7 Services Ltd, explains: “Our team wanted to show that you can be green and still be an international success story. All the technology we are using has existed for years, but it took a while to put it all together. Our new cooler design concept has received several patents and a prestigious international design award.”

Never miss out on your favourite beverage

In addition, the cooler is equipped with Internet of Things-capabilities. This provides the owner with information on buying frequency, customer preferences, but also unit sales and refill needs. Never again you have to miss out on your favourite beverage with this smart system.

As Eloranta explains: “The ‘Home of Cool’ is more than just an eco-friendly smart item – it is a stylish, internationally-awarded, patented product that complements the existing cooler market. The possibilities are almost limitless – we are excited to have turned our dream into reality!”

The Finnish start-up received a Phase 2 grant from the European Innovation Council to fund the transition of the TRL6 prototype into commercialisation for the European market.
