As part of the European Innovation Council (EIC), the Greenhouse Gas Programme (GHG) introduced a co-creation opportunity between Europe’s largest corporates and EIC beneficiaries to help build win-win synergies and co-create solutions with business partners. With that in mind, the EIC and its business partner Iberdrola invite you to apply to our joint EIC GHG Co-creation initiative to work together on better solutions that can reinforce GHG emissions reductions.

Acting on sustainability and capitalising on innovative thinking is an important priority for companies. Being one of the main energy technology companies in the world – third by market capitalisation and leader in renewables –, Iberdrola is leading the way when it comes to energy transition towards a low-emission economy.

The Iberdrola group supplies energy to nearly 100 million people in dozens of countries and develops its renewable, grid and commercial activities in Europe (Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, and Greece), the United States, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia. In addition, they are also working in markets such as Japan, Ireland, Sweden and Poland, among others.

With Iberdrola-PERSEO (the group’s international programme for start-ups that facilitates access to top-notch technologies and promotes the creation and development of a global and dynamic ecosystem in the energy sector), Iberdrola is looking to collaborate with EIC beneficiaries to tackle key challenges and lead society to a more sustainable future.

So, save the date: this co-creation journey with Iberdrola kicks off with an event on 8 and 9 June 2022. You can find more info about the co-creation process and timeline below.

Challenges

Regarding challenges, Iberdrola is keen on discovering new solutions for the following topics:

Challenge 1 – Smart solutions for demand-side carbon footprint assessment

Context: We’re aiming to offer a new service/product to our customers to achieve CO2 and other GHG emissions reductions at their premises. A first solution should focus on assessing and monitoring carbon footprint and the environmental impact related to our customers’ activities, whether they’re residential customers or commercial and industrial ones.

Possible solutions:

  • Automatic data collection directly from the source of information (via API, SFTP, etc.)
  • Monitoring and calculation of GHG emissions based on real inputs (e.g., from energy bill or customers’ inputs) and other non-measurable activities
  • Detailed report consolidation to be shared with third parties (customers, public entities, etc.)
  • Automatic mitigation plan elaboration to be shared with third parties
  • Non-exhaustive list of possible technologies to be included in the solutions: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, smart metering, big data, 5G, smart building

Challenge 2 – Smart solutions for demand-side mitigation of GHG emissions

Context: We’re aiming to offer a new service/product to our customers to achieve CO2 and other GHG emissions reductions. A second solution should allow our customers, whether they’re residential customers or commercial and industrial ones, to implement a mitigation plan for the reduction, and offset of their carbon footprint and their environmental impact.

Possible solutions:

  • Provision of demand-side insights, not only for use or energy optimization but for GHG emission reduction
  • Automated identification and recommendation of GHG emissions reduction quick wins measures
  • Automated identification and recommendation of offsetting actions to compensate GHG emissions
  • Monitoring of mitigation plan implementation
  • GHG Emissions trading platform
  • Non-exhaustive list of possible technologies to be included in the solutions: AI, IoT, blockchain, 5G, smart home, building management systems
