9 companies will be selected to participate in the 2nd EIC ePitching to procurers on 7 July. Additionally, these 9 companies will also be invited to attend the 1st Pan-European Hospital & Healthcare Procurement Summit taking place in Brussels, Belgium, in September 2022, free of charge. At the event, they will have the possibility to speed-date with the Summit participants and to exhibit for 1 day.

Within the selected group, 4 companies will be awarded ‘Best pitch’ during this online session and will be invited to physically pitch during the 1st Pan-European, Healthcare Procurement Summit in front of all the hundreds of procurers participating.

During this e-pitching, the focus is on demand-driven aspects for the healthcare provider. The goal will be to identify which start-ups have innovative ideas (namely regarding new products, intangible initiatives, or services) that can support hospital & healthcare procurers in their day-to-day work, in order to make their task more targeted and efficient.

With that in mind, Health Proc Europe,a European organisation that is creating the largest healthcare procurement ecosystem, and EHPPA, the European alliance of 12 non-profit Group Procurement Organisations which aims to pool expertise, leverage performance, and provide its members with a strategic position in the European health procurement market, are calling you to action to respond to one of the following key challenges.

Who can apply?

All EIC-backed SMEs working on innovative products or services in the field of health and security of supply, platforms for control of compliance, and legal transparency, innovation, and sustainability in the procurement processes, can respond to the challenges developed below.

What challenges should you prepare for?

In cooperation with the EIC, Health Proc Europe and EHPPA are looking for companies and start-ups that are willing to present their innovative solutions to procurers in the areas of:

  1. Security of supply
  2. Platform for control of compliance
  3. Innovation and sustainability

Challenge 1 – Security of supply

In the context of recent events happening worldwide, the topics revolving around supply chains and the security of supply are omnipresent. The pandemic of covid-19 and its long-term consequences, followed by the war in Ukraine, are demonstrating the fragility of the supply chains and highlighting the problems that delayed or cancelled deliveries are causing to the healthcare system. Having this in mind, the tools or services developed by the innovative companies should help the procurement organisations in the planning and executing phases of the tenders. More specifically, they should cover one of the following aspects:

  • Analysis of the supply chain
  • Risk assessment & risk management (for example, analysis of critical infrastructures for crisis preparedness)
  • Management of stocks and stockpiles
  • Creation of a buying platform
    • eCatalogue for procurement system
    • Finance aspects (payment)
    • Blockchain technics & transparency (offer-order-delivery)

Challenge 2 – Platform for control of compliance: topics during the execution of tenders

With the development and popularity of value-based healthcare and procurement, there is an increasing need for collecting and measuring data in an organised and secured manner. In addition, procurement organisations aren’t always taking care of the executing of the tenders and don’t have access to all the information that they would need to perform a control of compliance. In this way, an improvement in data and legal transparency, and sharing and analysis of data would be a big step forward. The tools or services developed by the innovative companies should help the procurement organisations in the planning and execution phases of the tenders. They should cover at least one of the following aspects:

  • Data collection for value-based procurement procedures
    • Collection of using/maintenance costs
    • Total outcome calculation
    • Quantifying quality aspects
  • Data transparency & data analysis
  • Predictive algorithms, for example., how to foresee evolutions of consumption for a starting tender
  • Benchmark tools
  • Tools for implementation of joint procurement

Challenge 3 - Innovation and sustainability in procurement procedures

Procurement in the healthcare sector is becoming the changemaker and its importance and also fragility were demonstrated during the covid-19 pandemic. In this context, innovation and sustainability are aspects that need to be systematically considered by the procurers. This involves on one hand, innovation of procurement procedures, on the other hand procurement of innovation and of more sustainable products and services. The tools or services developed by the innovative companies should help the procurement organisations in the planning phase of the tenders. They should cover one of the following aspects:

  • How to better include social and environmental responsibility in procurement procedures?
    • Tools allowing to measure the carbon footprint
    • Quantifying sustainability in tenders
  • How to better include innovation-related topics in procurement procedures? For example, tools such as:
    • Market place for meetings between innovative companies and hospitals / care homes
    • Innovation platform to match companies and hospitals / care homes based on defined needs.
