The Seal of Excellence is a quality label awarded to project proposals submitted to Horizon 2020, the EU's research and innovation funding programme, to help these possible projects find alternative funding. This award recognises the value of the EIC-funded company BlockTac and helps other funding bodies take advantage of the Horizon 2020 evaluation process.

Consumers keep unprotected against the fraud committed by European and non-European counterfeiters. But this deep-tech company works on a blockchain-based product that acts as a digital seal, blowing away the economics of the counterfeiters. BlockTac is a Spanish start-up company founded in 2018 with an impressive track record and growth in the use of Blockchain in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industries.

BlockTac’s product acts like a “vaccination” that puts in the hands of the consumers, through their smartphones, and without any apps, a definitive weapon to tell out the original product from the fake one. And once one product is identified as fake, the whole batch of counterfeited is marked as “fake”.

The company has contracts in different fields - Education, Health and idCards - with the similar blockchain technology. Their customers include universities, business schools, professional associations, food and consumer product companies in Europe and Latin America.

In less than two years, the company has been awarded different prizes and distinctions (Cuatrecasas Acelera, Startup Expansion, Expoliva, Shenzhen Innovation & Entrepreneurship International Competition) and it was present in numerous events (MWC Barcelona, MWC Los Angeles, Brand & Retail Experience World Congress, Istanbul Fintech Week and others). This year, BlockTac awarded the European Commission Horizon 2020 Seal of Excellence.

Francisco Guillén, the CEO of the company, commented:

“This recognition represents a new incentive to continue the strategy of fast commercial growth, continuous development of new business applications based on blockchain technology, and our international expansion”, he added

The company has received Phase 1 Grant from the European Innovation Council. This year, the company participated in the Corporate Day organised with Ab InBev and in the Innovation Procurer Day in Pharma organised in Dresden with the ambition to explore new markets and reinforce the international presence.
