High potential abounds in the green space. The second e-pitching session of the year was focused on renewable energy and allowed six SME’s to virtually pitch their business ideas to key green energy investors.

Several SMEs are developing ground-breaking technologies and countless entrepreneurial opportunities in the renewable energy space, but the biggest challenge is to make them viable. The new e-pitching session organised by the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot's took place on 31 October and focused on this industry. Six companies in the energy sector supported by the EIC pilot, pitched their innovative and sustainable projects via webcam to four investors.

This session gathered as investors EDP Ventures, Finindus, Danfoss and Iberdrola

The SMEs pitching were Lightyear, Wind Inertia Technologies - HESS, Solight, Hakom, Lancey Energy Storage, and Greenvolt

The companies were given five minutes to pitch, discuss and clarify their innovative ideas. This was followed by a Q&A session allowing the investors to identify how each company matches with their specific investment criteria.

“The pitches were all very interesting”

At the end of the e-pitching session, the investors made special mentions about the SMEs and the event.

“All these business models are awesome. We met six very good companies in a very little time”, said Fernando Rico, Corporate Financing, Treasury & Investment Analysis Director at Iberdrola

“We are all working in some very hot areas in terms of investments and activities. So put weight on how you stand out and how you add value to your proposition. That’s something really important for me and it was very good to see your presentations today”, added Niels van Dulmen, Project Manager Merger & Acquisitions at Danfoss.

“The pitches were all very interesting. We are already in touch with some SMEs and I’m sure that we will follow-up on that”, said Antonio Lopes, Investment Analyst at EDP Ventures.

“It’s quite a challenge to pitch your company in 5 minutes. Well done to all of you”, concluded Roel Callebaut, Investment Analyst at Finindus

Our next e-pitching event will be held between 11-13th November and the selection process has ended. The EIC pilot has partnered with TechTour for five exclusive online pitching sessions on Healthtech, Digital Technologies and CleanTech. The best companies from each pitching session will be invited to pitch at the European Venture Contest Final in Essen, on the 9-10 December.

We plan to host regular e-Pitches based on our company profiles in ScaleUp EU in the coming year. In January a new e-pitching event will include EIC funded companies working in Cybersecurity with EBAN and, in February the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot will gather SMEs from the Aerospace sector with ESA
