EIC EBAN ePitching on eHealth: EIC innovators and investors join forces in the eHealth revolution

For the past couple of years the EIC and EBAN are working together on numerous occasions to bring you the EIC/EBAN ePitching with Investors. On 29 April 2020 the 5th edition was held, this time around the topic of eHealth. 

5 SMEs pitched their innovation to the 7 EBAN jury-members. Bambi Medical, Brain Patch, Carmel Diagnostics, Miiskin and MJN were the 5 EIC companies selected to participate at the Scale-up of the month. 

Jacopo Losso, Director of EBAN, gave more details about the EIC and EBAN collaboration:

"It made sense to partner up with the EIC. The quality of the EIC companies is something we are impressed with, and it seems that every session it increases. This is also due to the great selection criteria. That makes these events easy to implement and elevates the quality of the teams we find".  

Jacopo is seeing a sheer rise in digital health investments, the sessions’ topic, even before the COVID-pandemic:

"For four years straight we see a rise of health sector as destination for angel investors. That is very much because of the democratization of this industry. It’s growing and growing. Nowadays, with the obvious issues that the health sector needs to priorities. I believe we may see an acceleration of this trend the coming months", he concluded. 

AI-based solution for patients with epilepsy won the ScaleUp of the month 

MJN was the winner of the session with an AI based solution that is capable of warning patients with epilepsy 1 to 3 minutes in advance. Jordina Arcal, CSO of MJN, gave us more details about the project funded by the EIC Accelerator:

"We benefitted a lot from EIC funding. We could overcome everything needed to enter the market, increase our team and do all the test needed to validate the technology, game changing really."

Jordina and MJN are currently looking for funding and the EIC ePitching with Investors are a great opportunity for them:

"It’s super interesting to join this specific session. The EIC is like a seal of excellence, if they are in your event there will be smart money, people who really want to invest. In addition, the large network is of great help to us. Winning todays’ session is also further recognition that our product is good", she added.

The winner will receive complimentary passes and a pitching slot to one of EBAN's flagship events, as well as premium visibility within the EBAN network.

The current COVID-pandemic is heavily influencing the health sector and Christine, EBAN-jury member and Senior Adviser at Lincs, also noticed this change in the sector:

“We see more and more home and personalised solutions these last years, medical devices reaching and supporting. If I can find one positive note of this crisis, is that health sector is being accelerated, bringing these solutions closer to the patient.”
